CVC Prelims and Finals (5-7-25 and 5-9-25): Everyone who attended the 2025 CVC Prelims and Finals including the athletes had to suffer through temperatures that we haven't yet experienced this season. The thermostat showed 90's for the first time all year which made it difficult especially for the long sprinters and distance runners. Even with the hot temps the Broncos posted some great performances with many of our team achieving personal bests in their events.

CVC Meet 3B (4-30-25): The story on Wednesday at Bella Vista at the CVC Meet #3 was the heat and pole vaulting. It was definitely the warmest meet we have had this year with temps in the mid to high 80s. As the temperatures heated up so did the performances on the track and in the field.
Bella Vista's senior pole vaulters were white hot over in the vault area with Tim Libell reaching a huge personal best of 14-09 (video) moving him to number three all time! Grant Hymas not to be outdone, upped his school record by two inches vaulting 16-03 (video).
Thank you Valerie DePeel for providing these awesome photos of Grant and Tim!
On the girl's side sophomore Sofia Ramos dropped another fast time in the 100 meters clocking 12.45 (video) the 5th fastest time in school history, and 200 meters improving to 26.11 (14th all time). Sofia also was the first leg of the varsity girls 4 x 100 relay team that included Allie Anselmino, Carmen Tomlinson and Hanna Gossett who all put together the seventh fastest time timing 49.61 (video).
It was a big day for Tim Libell. He not only PR'ed big in the pole vault but he also knocked more than half of a second off his best 110 hurdle time going 16.07 good enough to make his debut on the all time list at number 24 all time. Back to the 100 meters junior Allie Anselmino and sophomore Allison Hansen made their debuts on the all time list posting PR's at 13.33 (30th all time) and 13.35 (34th all time) respectively. Senior Medo Hafez cracked the 100 meter list with a fine 11.50 placing him 23'rd all time. Sophomore Hanna Gossett moved a few notches up the girls 400 meter list to number 24 finishing in 62.20.

Sacramento Meet of Champions (4-26-25): Here are some Bella Vista highlights from the Sacramento Meet of Champions (SMOC) last Saturday. I think the first highlight should be the volunteers! The BV TF booster board, parent volunteers and athlete volunteers are what really makes the meet so great! A huge thank you to all of the people who came out and gave their time to make this event the best meet in northern California.
It is a big accomplishment to just be invited to the SMOC let alone achieve a personal best under the pressures of such a prestigious meet. However, we had a few do just that!
Junior Eva Jensen set a personal best in the pole vault becoming the 15th vaulter in school history to clear over 10 feet (video). She placed fifth in the open competition earning her a highly sought-after SMOC medal.
Erin Spratt, a sophomore, broke her second class record this season this time in the discus with her first coming a few meets back in the shot put. Erin threw 112-07 (video) good for 3rd place in the open division and placing her 5th all time in school history! She is now the sophomore school record holder in both the shot and discus.
Later in the evening Calvin Fear, also a sophomore, broke his own 10th grade class record in the 1600 meters running 4:18.51 (video). The time moved him up to number seven all time in school history!
Arcadia Invitational (4-11-25 and 4-12-25): Whenever the Broncos head down to Arcadia, Ca for the Arcadia Invitational, there is always a feeling that big things could happen. By big things I mean amazing performances by BV athletes. Bella Vista took six of it's best athletes to Arcadia, the most prestigious high school track and field meet in the United States, and it is safe to say that they stepped up to meet the challenge of such a big meet!

On Friday Night junior Zoe Corder was entered in the rated section of the 3200 meters. Before the meet she let it be known that she was gunning for the BV school record held by Cessair McKinney who ran 10:47.59 at the Sac Joaquin Section (SJS) Masters meet back in 2017. Zoe had perfect weather conditions and an excellent field of runners to push her to her best. She was instructed by Coach Kuphaldt to remain in the back of the pack and slowly surge towards the front as the race progressed. Her strategy worked to perfection as she crossed the finish line in a school record 10:45.70 (video) placing her 9th in the race but first in school history. Zoe is blessed with a tenacious drive and focus which has served her well so far. She is ranked 2nd in the SJS and is looking to improve. After watching her on Friday night I believe she will.
The next day on Saturday morning, senior pole vaulter Grant Hymas began his warm up and raised the eyebrows of the BV coaching staff who witnessed that he was looking stronger than he ever has on his warm up vaults. He looked extremely confident before the competition began and that condidence carried over to his performance. Grant opened at 14-07 and cleared on his first attempt. Continuing into the competition, Grant cleared 15-02 then 15-07 (video - Note clearance!) also on first attempts. It took him three attempts to get his new PR at 16-01 (video) which is now the Bella Vista new school record. That 16-01 vault made him the 2025 open session champion. I have a feeling I'm going to be asked to buy a new pole for Grant because he just keeps going higher and higher!
On Saturday afternoon we fielded a girls distance medley relay with Jayden Fritz (1200m), Hanna Gossett (400m), Giuliana Serafini (800m) and Sofia Pham (1600m) battling hard and competing quite well considering the level of competition. Their efforts put them at number 15 on the DMR all time list! All in all the trip was very successful for the Broncos!

All Time Marks, Top 10 Marks and A Record! Once again the Broncos had several impressive performances on Wednesday at Ponderosa High School. It is amazing that we have a team that can put up times and marks that are some of the best in school history at every meet so far this year!
Our varsity girls 4 x 100 relay team continues to shine improving in almost every meet this year. With Carmen Tomlinson back from injury the team of Sofia Ramos, Hanna Gossett, Carmen Tomlinson and Allie Anselmino posted a top 10 time running 50.03 good for number 10 all time. Two of these same speedy girls ran all time marks in the open 100 meters with 10th grader Sofia Ramos clocking 12.68 placing her 7th all time and Hanna Gossett, another sophomore, running 12.76 moving her to 11th all time. Sofia also made her debut on the 200 meter all time list posting 27.08 cracking the list at number 23 all time.
Over in the field events super soph thrower Erin Spratt improved her status on the all time list in the shot put throwing 33-06.50 moving her into the top ten at 9th all time and improving her sophomore school record as well.
Junior Zoe Corder wanted to improve her position on the 800 meter all time list and popped off a big PR in that race running 2:17.73 for another top ten placement at number 4 all time. She is now in the top 5 in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters and in the top 20 in the 400 meters. Amazing range from this girl!
The highlight of the day came from senior pole vaulter Grant Hymas who broke a 23 year old school record vaulting 15-03 (video). The previous record of 15-02 (video) was held by Sean McAllister and was set back in 2002 at the end of the season at the Sac Joaquin Section Masters Finals. With over two months remaining in the 2025 season I get the feeling the record will be a bit higher by the end of the year!
Bronco Speed Festival (3-29-25): First of all thanks to all of the parents who came out to help run our invitational. I received nothing but compliments on how well the meet was run. Unlike other sports, it takes a village to run a track meet and it is always great when we have people step up and give their time to help others. BV parents are the best!
The Broncos had some big performances on Saturday at Bella Vista High School with several personal and season bests (PR, SR) showing up in the results.
The BV girls led the way in the medal tables...
The top six medaled in each event which was not an easy thing to do considering the number of heats especially in the 100m, 200m and 400m. For the Broncos our first medal of the day went to the girls 4 x 100 relay team of Sofia Ramos, Hanna Gossett, Allison Hansen and Allie Anselmino. Sophomore Allison Hansen was filling in for an injured Carmen Tomlinson and did quite nicely helping the team to a 3rd place finish and a strong 50.66 time.
Next to medal was junior distance runner Zoe Corder, who stepped down a distance to run the 400 earning a second place medal and a 17th place on the all time list. Some of the boys distance runners also made a surprise appearance in the 400 meters with junior Jonah Wooden running a big PR of 52.13 placing him in the 5th place medal position.
Sophomore Hanna Gossett was 4th in the 100 meters finally cracking the 13 second barrier running 12.91 and moving her up the all time list to number 14 all time in that event. Later in the meet Hanna had a huge PR in the 200 meters by over a second earning 2nd place and posting a fine mid season time of 26.10 (with a little help from Coach Barthel! See video) good for number 13 all time. Sofia Ramos, another sophomore, had a big PR in the 200 meters clocking 27.48 for 6th place.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Zoe Corder, Allie Anselmino, Sofia Ramos and Hanna Gossett took home second place and with the time of 4:15.58 they secured themselves a spot on the BV all time list at number 30.
In the hurdles, sophomore Tanner Carbone, in only his second 110 meter hurdle race, placed 4th in a time of 18.47. Tanner also took 6th in the JV 300 hurdles with a time of 46.67.
Granite Bay Field Festival (3-28-25): With only the six field events being contested, this meet has always been a mellow event. There are advantages to not having to check out from a field event to go do a running event. Athletes are able to focus on just one thing and performances tend to go up when this happens. The weather cooperated for the most part with temps in the 60s and winds coming out of the south around 10mph.
PRs, PR, PRs!: Check the results link above for personal records (PR) and season records (SR). Bella Vista had 30 PRs and 8 SRs set on Friday which is a good indication that the field event team is showing excellent fitness at this time of the year. If we continue to show improvement from this point in the season expect to see many more athletes on the team all time lists by the end of the year.
Speaking of all time marks we had a few on Friday. Junior Eva Jensen led the way improving on two of her all time marks. First in the long jump, Eva hit 16-03.50 moving her to number 18 on the LJ all time list. Later that afternoon, Eva popped a PR in the triple jump cracking the 33 foot barrier for the first time jumping 33-02 also good for number 18 all time! The last event to end the meet was the girls' discus where sophomore Erin Spratt inched closer to the 10th grade school record throwing 107-11 moving her up to number 7 all time. Erin has 1 foot, 5 inches to go for that record!
Awards! The top three in each event were awarded a unique GB Field Fest towel. We had a few given out the the Broncos on Friday. Here is the list.
- Vasity Girls Shot Put - Erin Spratt 3rd - 31-11
- Frosh/Soph Boys Shot Put - Henry Josue 3rd - 39--09.50

- Frosh/Soph Boys Pole Vault - Emilio Turner 1st - 10-06, Simon Rincon 4th - 9-06
Dublin Distance Fiesta (3-21-25 & 3-22-25): The BV distance runners traveled to Dublin California this last weekend to compete in the nations largest distance only event. There were a number of personal records set by the Broncos and even a few times that shook up the Bella Vista all time lists! This meet has always been a place where our distance athletes can thrive in an environment suited to their personal level of ability. It really shows in the results. Just look for the PR (personal record) or SR (season record) in the results link below. Just about every single runner in the meet posted a PR or SR this weekend!
Fast milers!: The Broncos had two girls move up the 1600 meter all time list at Dublin. First was junior Jayden Fritz who ran for a huge personal record clocking 5:20.59 improving her previous personal best by eight seconds! The time moved her up to number 21 on the all time list. Later that evening Zoe Corder, another junior, equaled Jaydens improvement upping her PR by eight seconds going from 5:06.75 last year to a five minute barrier breaking perfomance timing 4:58.92 placing her 2nd all time in the 1600 meters!
CVC Meet 1A (3-18-25): Our first conference meet was postponed from March 12 to March 18 and it turned out to be a smart move because the weather was much nicer on the later date. The the Broncos performed well despite most ot the team competing just 3 days earlier at Ponderosa. As a team Bella Vista had nine wins and 3 loses with the frosh/soph boys and girls sweeping their opponents and the varsity boys beating just Rio Americano with the varsith girls beating both Rio and Woodcreek but falling to Christian Brothers. Below are the team scores:
Varsity Girls Christian Brothers 82.00 54.00 Bella Vista Bella Vista 74.00 52.00 Rio Americano Bella Vista 71.00 60.00 Woodcreek Christian Brothers 93.00 29.00 Rio Americano Christian Brothers 87.00 44.00 Woodcreek Woodcreek 61.00 57.00 Rio Americano Varsity Boys Christian Brothers 81.00 54.00 Bella Vista Bella Vista 74.00 52.00 Rio Americano Woodcreek 83.00 49.00 Bella Vista Christian Brothers 88.00 35.00 Rio Americano Woodcreek 74.00 58.00 Christian Brothers Woodcreek 97.00 31.00 Rio Americano Frosh/Soph Girls Bella Vista 82.00 35.00 Christian Brothers Bella Vista 98.00 18.00 Rio Americano Bella Vista 94.00 40.00 Woodcreek Christian Brothers 45.00 28.00 Rio Americano Woodcreek 60.00 51.00 Christian Brothers Woodcreek 61.00 41.00 Rio Americano Frosh/Soph Boys Bella Vista 77.00 36.00 Christian Brothers Bella Vista 96.00 16.00 Rio Americano Bella Vista 66.00 60.00 Woodcreek Christian Brothers 64.99 17.00 Rio Americano Woodcreek 68.00 37.00 Christian Brothers Woodcreek 81.00 24.00 Rio Americano
There was just one all time mark set by a Bella Vista athlete and it belonged to sophomore Sofia Ramos. Sofia set a personal best in the varsity girls 100 meters with a time of 13.04. The time moved her from 21st to 17th on the BV girls 100 meter all time list.
Ron Ruptier Invitational (3-15-25): The word of the day was cold at Ponderosa High School on Saturday. Temperatures ranged from the low 40s at the start of the meet and didn't go up much from there by the time the meet was over. Temperatures this low make it difficult to achieve the times and marks that we are shooting for at this time in the season. Despite the cold temps and wet track there were many Broncos who had excellent performances across the team.

All Time List Movement: The Broncos didn't have a full team in attendance with the distance runners taking the day off to avoid running too many meets in one week (they have Dublin next Saturday) but even with the cold and small team we were able to improve a couple of events on the all time lists.
- Junior Eva Jensen improved her personal best in the long jump going 15-11.25 which moved her up to number 21 all time.
- Another junior, Carmen Tomlinson moved up to number 20 all time running 49.29 surpasing her own coach, Grace Zschokke on the list!
- Finally sophomore Hanna Gossett made her debut on the girls 400 meter all time list running 62.83 placing her 31st all time.
What a Team! For the second week in a row our Frosh/Soph boys team won an invitational. This is saying a lot because we didn't have entries in several events meaning we were not at full strength! We are looking for big things from this team down the road!
Randy Sturgeon Invitational (3-8-25): The wind shifted to the south on Saturday making sprinting more difficult but ended up aiding the horizontal jumpers. Here are a few highlights of the meet:
School Record! We had a class school record in the girls shot put. Sophomore Erin Spratt threw her shot 32-07 to break the tenth grade shot put record that has been around since 1982! The mark moved her up on the shot put all time list to number 12 all time. Erin also had a personal record (PR) in the discus throwing an all time list mark of 106-05 moving her up to number 8 in school history. Looks like that sophomore discus record may fall soon too!
Other all time marks: In only her second meet trying the event, junior Allie Anselmino made her debut on the all time long jump list when she jumped a PR of 15-07 starting her off at number 31 all time.
The varsity girls 4 x 100 relay team of Sophia Ramos, Hanna Gossett, Carmen Tomlinson and Allie Anselmino took home the gold medal by winning the entire meet in an all time list mark of 50.62 moving the quartet into the twelfth position.
Although not an all time list mark, the frosh/soph boys 4 x 100 team had a commanding victory on Saturday. Jessie Perrine, Riley Durazo, Kaiden Applegate, and Tanner Carbone secured the gold medal with a time of 46.52.
Bronco Roundup Distance Carnival (3-7-25): It was a chilly night at Bella Vista High School last Friday with winds out of the north at around 14 mph. The winds hampered all seven heats of the girls 1600 meters, the first race of the day, down the backstretch of Sparks Track but the times were still impressive as the girls fought the wind. The winner of the fast heat of each race received a custom made cowboy hat!
A big thanks to all of the parents who volunteered their time to help us run the meet. As we always say we could never do this without you!
In the fast heat (cowboy hat heat), Bella Vista's junior Zoe Corder made her move at 800 meters and never trailed after that going on to win in 5:10.88 (video) over a very competitive field.
The next Bronco up was sophomore Calvin Fear who also ran in the cowboy hat heat. When the 16th and final heat of the boys 1600 was up the wind had died down but it was still cold. Not a problem for Cal who ran 4:20.50 (video) breaking the sophomore boy's class record which was previously held by Jim Mebust way back in 1973! That time also moved Calvin up on the 1600 meter all time list to number 10 all time!
Another school record was broken Friday night by Zoe Corder when she doubled back with the 3200 meters. Zoe broke eleven minutes for the first time ever running 10:56.14 placing her 5th on the girls 3200 meter all time list. with that time Zoe also broke the girls' junior class record held by Anne Kuphaldt who ran 11:00 flat back in 1987.
Many of the coaches, including the BV coaches, felt that this meet was the best Bella Vista distance carnival to date based on the depth of excellent times! BV truly was the place to be for early season distance running. GO BRONCOS!
Glenn Poole Invitational (3-1-25): It's a difficult thing to start the season off with one of the longest meets that we have ever been to. Saturday meets are usually not this long and it was evident that the meet length was hard for the athletes to manage.
Glenn Poole Results! | Video! |
All Time List Athletes and Highlights! - Even though this was the first meet of the year the Broncos had a few athletes achieve marks good enough to make the school's all time lists.
- Distance runner Zoe Corder (11) moved up to number 7 on the girls 3200 meter all time list. Zoe won the race in 11:17.79 moving her up 4 spots from her best of 11:22 last season. Zoe also won the 1600 in 5:09.75, not her personal best, but a fine early season time!
- The varsity girls 4 x 100 relay team of Sofia Ramos, Hanna Gossett, Carmen Tomlinson, and Allie Anselmino ran 51.68 good for the 23st best time in school history.
- Junior Carmen Tomlinson came back in the 300 hurdles, the first time she has ever run the event, and made the all time list by running 51.84 placing her 31st on the all time list.
- Sophomore thrower Erin Spratt moved up both the shot put and discus all time lists from her freshman year. She placed 4th in the shot put throwing 31-08.50 moving her up to number 17 all time.
