2012 Bella Vista Track and Field Announcements
Practice Schedule for February Break (Feb 20-24):
- Long jump, triple jump, high jump, and hurdlers meet Monday through Friday at the track at 2:00 pm.
- Distance runners (800m 1600m, 3200m) meet - Monday (2/20) - 9 am BV Track, Tuesday (2/21) - 9 am Fish Hatchery, Wednesday (2/22) - 4 pm BV Track, Thursday (2/23) - Run On Your Own, Friday (2/24) - Run On Your Own, Saturday (2/25) - 10 am Bridge.
- Sprinters - Monday through Friday at the track at 3:00 pm.
- Throwers - Monday through Friday at the track at 3:00 pm.
- Pole Vaulters - Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 am.
Parent Meeting: The Bella Vista track and field team will be having our annual parent meeting n Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 in the BV Library. Topics of discussion will be team rules and expectations, season schedule, transportation to away meets, and ways you as parents can help your son or daughter as well as the BV track community. We have a very large team this year so it is important that we get everyone involved and thismeeting is the first step. Hope to see you all there!

2012… Frequently Asked Questions
- When do we start practice? We will be starting pre-season conditioning on Monday, January 23 at 3:10 pm. A schedule of pre-season conditioning days can be found by clicking here. Starting January 23 we will meet at the track and our workout should last about an hour to an hour and a half. The official season begins on Monday, February 6. Starting February 6 practice will be every weekday at 3:10 pm sharp and will end between 4:30 and 5:30 depending on your event. Everyone makes the team - there are no cuts. - What events can I do in track and field at BV? High School track and field consists of 16 events for both boys and girls. On the track we run the 100 meters, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1600 m, 3200 m, 100 m hurdles (girls), 110 m hurdles (boys), 300 m hurdles, 4 x 100 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay. The field events we compete in are the high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, and discus. We compete in varsity competition (Juniors and Seniors) and frosh/soph competition (Freshmen and Sophomores). By rule you can compete in no more than 4 events (including relays).
- What if I missed sign-ups? If you missed or know someone who missed the sign-ups on December 6 tell them you can always sign up with Coach U anytime. You can also email your sign-up information to Coach U at daveu@surewest.net. Include in your email your first and last name, parents/guardians names, home phone number, parents email address.
- How do I get cleared to participate? To receive clearance to start practice with the track and field team you must first read the Bella Vista Athletic Policy Handbook, complete the Athletic Clearance Packet (click here to view both documents), and then submit your completed packet to Paula Lasick in the attendance office for approval. Please allow 24-48 hours for athletic clearance. Note that you will have to get a physical exam from a doctor.
- If you have already completed and submitted the policy signature form for a 2011-2012 school year fall or winter sport you do not need to go through this process again. Remember that if you are in a winter sport (basketball or wrestling) you must complete the winter sport season before you can participate in track and field.
- What kind of grades do I need to participate in sports at BV? You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better with no more than one F, and a citizenship GPA of 2.0 to compete in any sport at Bella Vista. For more information on academic requirements see page 6 of the BV Athletic Handbook.
- Any other challenges coach? Everyone is responsible for recruiting one person other than themselves to try Track and Field. Everyone knows by now that we win with numbers. See what you can do!!!
Remember – Get your physical done before January 23! Make sure your grades are not slipping!!!

2012 Season Track and Field Team Sign Ups: The Bella Vista
Track and Field Team will be having sign-ups on Tuesday,
December 6, 2011 at lunch in the big gym. Those interested will need to be
there to sign up and collect important information on the upcoming 2012
season. If you have any friends who want to come out make sure that they
stop by! Our season begins Monday, February 6. Pre-season conditioning begins Monday, January 23 (conditioning
schedule). You must go through the clearance process before January 23! See
below for more information on athletic clearance, grades, etc...

Who: Track and Field Athletes and their immediate families
The Bella Vista Bronco Track Club will provide dessert, water and soft drinks for the track and field athletes and their immediate families. The remainder of the potluck will be provided by the families (alphabetically). Bring enough to serve ten or so people for the dishes indicated below:
Last Name Starting with A to M: Main dish
Last Name Starting with N to Z: Side dish or Salad
IMPORTANT NOTE: All athletes must have turned in their uniforms (shorts, singlet, and sweat outfit) in order to receive their awards. You may turn in your uniform at the Banquet to Coach Unterholzner (Sprinters/Field Events) or Coach Sargent (Distance Runners). Please return the uniforms clean and in a brown paper bag with your NAME on it.
