Bella Vista Track and Field  Red and Black Inter-squad Meet - Rules

I.                     Team Make-up:

1.        The BV track team will be divided into a red team and a black team by the coaching staff.
2.        Athletes will stay on the first team they were assigned to when they first joined the BV track team.  If an athlete was on the red team last year they will be on the red team again this year etc.
3.        Each team will have two captains (1 boy, 1 girl) to be determined by the coaching staff.

II.                   Entry Limits:

1.        Athletes must compete in at least 2 events.  If an athlete competes in only one event, any points scored for that athlete’s team will not count.
2.        An athlete may not compete in more than 3 events.

III.       

Order of Running Events: Field Events:
1.        High Hurdles (110 m VB, 110 m – F/SB, 100 m G)
2.        1600 meters
3.        400 meters
4.        100 meters
5.        800 meters
6.        200 meters
1.  High Jump
2.  Long Jump
3.  Triple Jump
4.  Pole Vault
5.  Shot Put
6.  Discus

IV.           Running Event Heat Rules:

1.        Whenever possible there should be at least one freshmen boy and girl, one sophomore boy and girl, one junior boy and girl, and one senior boy and girl in each race or race heat.
2.        At the conclusion of each race each athlete must give the finish line recorder their name, grade and team color (red or black).
3.        Each athlete must wear his or her teams color ribbon.

V.            Field Event Rules:

1.        The high jump and pole vault will be a combined competition between every grade and between both boys and girls.  Opening height for the high jump will be 4’0” and the bar will be raised by 2” until the end of the competition.  The official will determine the pole vault opening height at the time of the event.

2.        The long and triple jump will be an open pit.  Athletes need to sign up giving their name, grade, and team (red or black).  Each competing athlete will receive 3 jumps for the long jump, and triple jump.

3.        The shot put can be run, as a combined event (boys and girls, all grades together) as long as one athlete’s throw can be determined from another as they throw and as each throw is recorded.  Each athlete will receive three throws.  Make sure each athlete enters with their name, grade, and team (red or black) on the recording sheet.

4.        The discus can be run the same as the shot put.

VI.           Scoring System:

1.        Each event will be scored to 6 places.  1st place = 10 pts., 2nd place = 8 pts., 3rd place = 6 pts., 4th place = 4 pts., 5th place = 2 pts., 6th place = 1 pt.
2.        Junior and senior boys are not allowed a handicap.
3.        Girls, freshman, and sophomore boys are allowed a handicap based on the existing boys and girls school records (see handicap table).
