BV Girls Win SJS D2 Title! (Friday, May 19 at Bella Vista High School) - For the second year in a row the Bella Vista Girls Track and Field team has won the Sac Joaquin Section Division 2 title! In a close contest BV defeated Ponderosa and Cosumnes Oaks with a score of Bella Vista 94, Ponderosa 85 and Cosumnes Oaks 78. The weather on Friday was in the low 90's, completely opposite from last years Finals when it was cold, windy and pouring rain. 2017 BV Girls SJS D2 Champs

The scoring started off on Wednesday with the long jump and shot put field event finals. In the 5th round of the long jump Emma Barthel was sitting in second place with a 16-11.50 jump. With the leading jump at 17-01 and only one jump left Emma needed 2 inches to take the lead. Showing great poise Emma landed a 17-01.50 jump to win her first Divisional gold! Supporting Emma in the long jump was Zoe Pantis who took fifth place and earned 2 more points for BV. Over in the shot put Haley Miguel was able to enter the competition as an alternate from league and secured 5th place for a much needed two points leaving the Broncos Wednesday team total at 14 points.

On Friday the Broncos started the meet off continuing their winning ways with the 4 x 100 Relay of Kendra Worthington, Sadye Peschke, Zoe Pantis and Emma Barthel taking the event in a season best 49.04. That was a quick 10 points for the girls making their total 24 (Video).

2017 BV Girls 4 x100 Relay

About the same time the relay was going off senior thrower Haley Miguel was earning a third place finish in the girls discus. That finish got her a medal and 6 more points for BV. The Broncos now had 30 points with their team strength ready to shine on the track.

Next Sadye Peschke cruised to victory in the 100 hurdles (Video) good for another 10 points. Peschke, the defending champ in this event, showed great form winning in 14.70. Backing her up was the always reliable Kendra Worthington running 16.33, taking fourth place and adding another 4 points to the team total. Bella Vista now had 44 points but would need many more to win the team title.

For more points the Broncos looked to sprinter Emma Barthel. Two events after the 100 hurdles Emma was up in the 100 meters and she stayed true to form taking third in 12.60 (Video) and another six points for the team making 50 total.

The 800 meters was next and proved to be very productive for the two individuals entered and for the team as a whole. Victoria Dix and Hannah Gow showed how tough they could be setting personal bests and placing 2nd and 5th for a combined 10 points and 60 total team points (Video). Victoria moved to number 8 all time in school history with a 2:19.32 and Hannah is now 22nd all time with a 2:25.57.

The next two events on the track were the 300 hurdles and the 200 meters where the Broncos were once again well represented. The 300 hurdles was likely the girls race of the day with Ponderosa's McKenzie Fletcher and Bella Vista's Sadye Peschke coming in as two of the top 10 in the state. In the end Sadye prevailed winning in a meet, stadium and school record time of 42.49 (Video) not to mention 10 big team points. A few minutes later Emma Barthel was back at it in the 200 meters (Video) taking another 3rd place running 25.97 and adding 6 points to the total. At this point the Broncos now had 76 points putting them in second place to Ponderosa's 85 points. With no entries in the 3200 meters or 4 x 400 Relay Ponderosa could score no more points meaning BV needed 10 points from these next two events.

As it turned out the 3200 meters was all the Broncos needed because senior Cessair McKinney put the hammer down running a huge personal record of 11:00.25 (Video) for the win! Bella Vista 86 - Ponderosa 85. This was Cessair's first Divisional win and it couldn't have come at a better time. The icing on the cake was the 4 x 400 Relay where Kendra Worthington, Victoria Dix, Grace Zschokke and Sadye Peschke took 2nd with a time of 4:03.16 (Video) for 8 points finishing off the scoring at 94.

Junior Jermain Worthy led the boys team to a 4th place finish at Sections with a championship in the 110 hurdles (Video) and a 2nd place finish in the 300 hurdles (Video). This was Jermain's first section championship following his first league championship last week.

In all Bella Vista will be sending 14 athletes to the SJS Masters Meet next week at Elk Grove HS. The prelims will be on Thursday, May 25 and the Finals on Friday, May 26. Our qualifiers include - Emma Barthel (100m, long jump), Max Bjorni (pole vault), Ben Blankenburg (1600m), Victoria Dix (800m, 4x400R), Garrett Dozier (triple jump), Chris Gilmer-Wren (discus), Jaden Koenig (long jump), Cessair McKinney (3200m), Zoe Pantis (4x100R), Sayde Peschke (100h, 300h, 4x100R, 4x400R), Raul Steed (300h), Kendra Worthington (4x100R, 4x400R), Jermain Worthy (110h, 300h), Grace Zschokke (4x400R). BV Track & Field Families! The Awards Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23th from at 6:30 pm in the Bella Vista Cafeteria. Instructions are below:

Athletes - you are all excused for all of 6/0 period for tomorrows meet. Be at Roseville HS by 2:00. Below is a message from the Roseville coach about parking and not going into the Roseville campus. When you arrive STAY IN THE STADIUM!

A reminder that the track meet will start at 3pm tomorrow.  Because students will be here prior to school getting out, please ask your coaches to stress that the athletes need to remain in the stadium while school is in session.  Also, please have your coaches send out an email warning about parking – there is none J  We are insanely short on parking and in the surrounding neighborhood, some of the spots require a permit until 3pm.  The back parking lot is always full with student parking and the gate is closed and locked.  I will man the gate and let cars in as cars leave.  I would rather athletes/parents have a heads up now.  Thank you!
