BV Girls Win Section Crown! Cold rain and wind could not stop the Lady Broncos from dominating the competition at the Sac Joaquin Section DII-III Championships on Friday night at Bella Vista High School | Full Results | Photos Coutesy of Josh McKinney and Rob Schmalenberger | Video. (posted 5-21-16)
The scoring actually started in the 98 degree heat on Wednesday when Kourtney Gwin took 4th in the pole vault and Tara Kalemba 6th in the discus good enough to qualify both to the Masters meet the following week. That meant that the BV girls began Friday with 5 points. High jumper Shelby Dozier was the first to add to the scoring by winning the DII-III high jump in a quick but dramatic jump off into a strong head wind. Shelby went 5-03 for her first divisional section title.
Next the girls 4 x 100 (Sadye Peschke, Carly Kleefeld, Kendra Worthington, Emma Barthel) placed 5th good for 2 points (video). Carly Kleefeld finished 6th to add yet another point to our team score (video). The hurdles proved to be extremely productive for the Broncos where Sadye Peschke won two SJS Divisional golds in the 100 (video) and 300 hurdles (video) in the pouring rain.
The 800 (video), 1600 (video) and 3200 meters were also a huge haul for BV with over 40 points coming from the three events. In the 1600 Kendall Derry took 1st, Kaitlin Derry 3rd, Brook Eberle 4th and Kristi Capello 6th adding 21 points to the total. In the 800 Kendall finished 3rd and Brook 5th for another 8 points.
Finally in the 3200 Hannah Wohlenberg won her first divisional title while breaking the 11 minute barrier for the first time running 10:57.55. She was followed by Cessair McKinney's big PR of 11:05.58 good for 4th and another 14 points for the team (video).
The last event of the night was the 4 x 400 relay with Sadye Peschke, Victoria Dix, Kendra Worthington, and Carly Kleefeld. The BV girls finished in style winning the gold with a fine time of 4:00.28 (video).
It was definitely one of he more memorable nights for BV track and field. The lady broncos had 14 girls qualifying to the SJS Masters meet. Shelby Dozier (high jump), Sayde Peschke (100 & 300 Hurdles), Carly Kleefeld (400 meters), Kendall Derry (800 & 1600 meters), Kaitlin Derry (1600 meters), Brook Eberle (800 & 1600 meters), Kristi Capello (1600 meters), Sedona McNerney (3200 meters), Hannah Wohlenberg (3200 meters), Cessair McKinney (3200 meters), Tara Kalemba (Discus), Kourtney Gwin (pole vault), 4 x 100 (Sadye Peschke, Carly Kleefeld, Kendra Worthington, Emma Barthel), 4 x 400 (Sadye Peschke, Carly Kleefeld, Kendra Worthington, Victoria Dix)

BV Track and Field Noodle Fundraiser: The Bella Vista Track and Field Team will be having a fundraiser at Noodles & Company on April 5 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on 6123 Sunrise Blvd. Bring in this flyer or mention Bella Vista Track and Field, buy some noodles, and we receive 25% of the sales!
April 6 Buses: We have two buses reserved for the April 6 meet at Cosumnes Oaks HS that will take us to the meet, drop us off and then leave. Those athletes that take the bus to the meet must find a ride home. Team members are not required to ride the bus if they have their own ride to the meet. Coach U needs to get an accurate count of how many would like to take the bus to the meet to see if we will have enough team members to justify paying to get them. Please let Coach U know if you want to take the bus to the April 6 meet at practice on Tuesday or Wednesday. Distance runners let your coach know and they will get the numbers to me.
