Sac-Joaquin Section District II American River College Thursday, May 17, 2001 By Keith Conning On a perfect night for track the SJS Sub-Section II selected their qualifiers for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship. The top six finishers in each event qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at UC Davis on Wednesday, May 23 and Friday, May 25. It was fun going to a track meet and not having to announce. I will be announcing the Pac-10 meet at Cal on Saturday and Sunday. Jerry Colman, the meet director of the Sacramento Meet of Champions, and I just realized in our polo shirts, shorts, and sandals. After living 35 years in Berkeley, I'm starting to get used to the warm Sacramento Valley evenings. The Sac-Joaquin Section was established in 1942, one year after I was born. The meet directors were Dick Seward (Rio Linda) and Bob King (Del Campo, Fair Oaks). Meanwhile, Bob Rush, the former track coach at the College of San Mateo, and his timing crew, were setting up for the State Community College Championships, which will take place on Friday and Saturday. There was no wind gauge, but there was little or no wind to speak of. Note: I have reported my splits just as I took them. I have not converted them to match the final time.
