SJS Prelims and Finals (5-8-24 and 5-10-24):
Bella Vista Boys Win The Sac Joaquin Section Team Title!
To win a SJS divisional track and field championship all team members must be at the top of their game when the time counts. The Broncos were just that when it counted. As the meet progressed, event after event the BV athletes stepped up and got the job done. In convincing fashion the Bronco boys team won another section crown beating second place Turlock by twenty three points. On the girls side the Broncos showed poise in the events they are strongest and secured a solid second place in the division scoring 66 total points.

The week of the division 2 meet was very similar to the previous week when BV hosted the CVC prelims and finals. Wednesday's prelims were very windy wreaking havoc for several events none more than the ones that had to use the back stretch of Sparks track. Friday's finals were much warmer with less wind. Despite the wind, heat and tough competition the Broncos were able to win 10 events and place 4 on the 2nd tier of the podium.
Wednesday's prelims actually had some finals which started with the girls pole vault. Senior Fiona Ryan and sophomore Eva Jensen were able to score a combined 13 points for Bella Vista with Fiona reaching the top of the podium by vaulting a personal best 11-01.00 (video). Eva also posted her best vault ever scaling 9-08 (video). Both marks moved the girls up on the pole vault all time list. With Fiona winning and Eva tied for 4th BV started out the meet with 13 points.
The first event on the track was a final which proved to be fruitful for the Broncos as it catered to one of our strengths, the distances. Both the BV girls then boys 4 x 800 relays were victorious giving the team 10 points for each win. The girl's team of Jayden Fritz, Sophia Pham, Haley Mazzei, and Zoe Corder ran 10:03.09 with the boys team of Ian Bishop, Calvin Fear, Griffin Keel and Kellen Kirby posting a time good enough to move them up on the all time list to number 8 all time running 8:19.77. Our girl's team now had 23 points and the boys were on the scoreboard with 10.
It should also be noted that although it was a prelim therfore no points were scored for the team, Kai Brown set an individual mark in the 100 meter trials that we don't see very often at BV. Kai ran 10.87 (video) placing him 2nd all time in that event.
Our next scoring opportunity on Wednesday came from Owen Dismukes in the long jump. He waited until his final jump to put one out there in the sand good enough to land him in second place. Owen went 21-10 which tied his PR. The jump gave 8 team points to BV so going into Friday's finals we had a total of 18 with the girls team having accumulated 24 points.
Friday's finals were just that, finals. All events were a final which means the top six spots are up for grabs and each spot is scored representing a ticket to the SJS Masters Meet. Not as much wind on Friday but it felt much hotter. The heat didn't seem to affect the Broncos that much because we had so many personal bests set.
For BV the first scoring opportunity on Friday came from the boys triple jump where senior Owen Dismukes came into the competition as the top seed. Owen had some difficulties navigating the runway on his first two jumps where he fouled badly leaving only one jump left to get in a qualifier so that he would be able to jump three more times in the finals. Owen moved his steps way back and got in a fair jump of 43-06 assuring he would get three more in the finals. On his first jump in the finals he improved his only fair jump to 44-01. Trailing and in 3rd place it came down to his final jump where Owen uncorked a big one jumping 45-05 (video) for the win and another 10 points for BV! That gave BV 28 points with the 4 x 100 relay fast approaching.
Bella Vista had another chance to pick up points from a field event with the boys pole vault happening at the same time as the boys triple jump. Bella Vista junior vaulters Tim Libell and Grant Hymas both set personal bests moving them up on the all time list and at the same time by placing 5th and 2nd respectively they gave the team 10 more points. Tim PR'ed at 13-04 and Grant at 14-07 (video). BV now totaled 38 points with the track events about to start.
The first race on the track for BV was the boys 4 x 100 relay and it was looking like it was up for grabs with so many evenly matched teams in the final. The Bella Vista team of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddik Trumbull and Owen Dismukes passed the batton as they had all year, with perfection. They pulled away in the home stretch for the victory running 42.63 (video) and adding another 10 points to the BV total making it 48 on the scoreboard.
Immediately following the 4 x 100s was the girls 1600 meters. This has been a very strong event for the Broncos with a young crop of girls distance runners making their way up the BV all time lists all season long. It was a very tactical race, which many distance races are, and it played into the hands of sophomore Zoe Corder who new she could rely on her strong kick to bring her home. Zoe cruised to victory in 5:15.26 out kicking the field on the home stretch. Her win added another 10 points to the BV girls team total making it 33 points in all.
Up next on the track was the boys 1600 meters. BV had two solid entries in freshman Calvin Fear and senior Kellen Kirby. The lead pack was established fairly early in the race with the two BV runners settling in and waiting until the big kick on the final lap. With about 300 meters to go Kellen took the lead, pushing the pace past what the rest of the field could handle. Kellen cruised home for the win in 4:18.98 with young Calvin close behind in another freshman school record placing 3rd overall in 4:26.74. This was a huge event for the Broncos because it added another 16 points to our team total. Now with 64 points we were thinking that the team title was within reach!
The tough 400 meters was up next with senior Reddik Trumbull coming in as the second seed. Reddik was coming in as the CVC champion and had high hopes of placing in the top three to boost our team point total and earn a spot in the Masters meet. Reddik remained strong throughout the race and held on for a well earned second place giving another 8 points to BV and further distancing ourselves from second place Turlock with 72 points. Senior Emily Bluemel also qualified for the Masters meet setting a personal best in the 400 meters and finally breaking 59 seconds with a fine run of 58.99 moving her into the top ten on the all time list. Emily's time earned her 6th place in the race and one point for BV (34 total).
Looking at the meet schedule the next race on the track was the girls 800 and with the top two seeds coming in from league finals the Broncos looked to add more team points not to mention individual titles. Fresh off her 1600 D2 title, Zoe Corder led the second lap with teammate Haley Mazzei, also just a sophomore, with a rush on the home stretch to pass several runners. Zoe ended up with the win running 2:21.36 and Haley was a close second in 2:22.84. A first and second place finish for BV accounted for 18 more points which totaled 52 for Bella Vista.
Back to the field events and the girls triple jump Bella Vista had two jumpers qualify for the final. Eva Jensen jumped a personal best 32-06 on her first attempt which moved her up on the all time list and Fiona Ryan, after making some adjustments in her approach run, finished with a solid effort jumping 33-09 and taking fourth place. 4th place equals 4 points piled onto our team total making it 56 for BV.
Our next scoring opportunity came in the very next race when the boys 800 meter runners took to the starting line. Bella Vista ace Kellen Kirby showed great patience through about the first 700 meters then began his kick to distance himself from the field and took the 800 meter title for the second year in a row in 1:58.10. A win equals 10 points so BV had a very stong score of 82 points headed into the final stretch on the schedule.
A special note on hurdler Polina Bardisova who ran a huge personal best in the 300 hurdles at 47.51 (video) placing her 8th all time. After a scratch from another hurdler, we are happy to announce that Polina will be competing in Masters meet next week because she was moved up from 7th to 6th place!
Emily Bluemel gave the Broncos another 2 points with her big PR in the 200 meters running 25.58 (video) moving her to number five all time and 5th in the race. She will move on to masters in the 200 as well as the 400 meters. The Bella Vista girls now had 58 total points.
After the 200 meters we saw from the team scoring that just a few more points in the girls 3200 meters would lock up second place for the BV girls team. We got more than a few from super soph Zoe Corder who ran another tactical race to cruise to the finish line in a near personal best of 11:32.22 earning her second place and 8 team points. It was a tough divisional championships for Zoe but after competing in four events (five with the 800 prelim!) she showed just how much grit a Bronco can have. Awesome job Zoe! Zoe's 8 points in the 3200 meters ended the Bronco's girls team scoring at 66 earning them the SJS D2 plaque for second place.
Our final ten points on the boys side came from the youngest member of the BV boys SJS D2 roster, freshman Calvin Fear, who also ran the same schedule as Zoe! After winning his first varsity individual league title in the 3200 the week before at the CVC Finals he decided to do it again at the divisional meet with a victory at the same distance. Calvin made it look easy running 9:50.34 for his first ever divisional title. Calvin's contribution to the team score gave BV a grand total of 92 points and locked up the 2024 Sac Joaquin Section Division 2 title for the Broncos!
It is inspiring to see high school kids work so hard all season long then show incredible grit when the stakes are high. It is always satifying when the fruits of our labor are seen on the track and in the field. We are so, so proud of all the Broncos for sticking it out, working hard and competing with honor. CVC Prelims and Finals (5-1-24 and 5-3-24): To fully understand Bella Vista's story going into the Capital Valley Conference finals one should know the history of what led to the situation of each of our four teams. Bella Vista fielded a frosh/soph girls team, frosh/soph boys team, varsity girls team and varsity boys team this season. A team in the CVC earns one championship point for every team beaten during the dual meet portion of the CVC season schedule.
Our two boy's teams were undefeated in CVC dual meet competition earning a maximum of six championship points for each team. Therefore, when the CVC Finals came around we were comfortably in the lead with hopes of continuing our success. Our girls frosh/soph and varsity teams each had one loss to Woodcreek High School which occured back in mid-March. Since those loses our girls team have gotten stronger and won every dual meet since. This meant that the BV girls championship point total was 5 to Woodcreeks 6 going into the CVC Finals.
Now comes the month of May and the CVC finals where each team that we beat is now worth two championship points instead of one and if we are able to win the meet we would be one point up on Woodcreek and win the overall girls conference championship. As you can see by the final team standings for the meet Bella Vista came out on top of all four divisions!

I usually highlight individuals in the recaps but for this meet I want to highlight the entire team as a whole. The coaching staff talked amongst themselves about the tentativeness of some of our team members early on in the season. A team meeting, a few (or a lot) of words of encouragement and pats on the back later we started seeing a change in the team focus where team members started to believe in the hard work they had done and in turn started believing in themselves. This shift of focus could be seen in real time on the track and in the field.
The sport of track and field is often viewed as just an individual sport with no team elements but any experience track coach will tell you that it is a delicate balance between the two. Being apart of something larger than yourself like a track team only makes the individual stronger which in turn makes the team stronger. This was truly a team effort! When we started believing in each other and buying into the system of training at Bella Vista, we started believing in ourselves. It can be contagious and is a beautiful thing to witness. Keep it up Broncos! We still have meets on the schedule and amazing things to accomplish. GO BRONCOS!
CVC Meet 3B (4-24-24): The Broncos had to travel all the way up to Yuba City High School last Wednesday for our final CVC meet before the Conference Finals on May 1 and 3. The team performed very well sweeping Yuba City HS and Antelope HS in all four divisions.

All time marks were set by:
- The varsity girls 4 x 400 relay team of Emily Bluemel, Jayden Fritz, Haley Mazzei and Zoe Corder who ran a 4:16.68 placing them 29th on the all time list.
- Senior Polina Bardisova moved up the lists in her two specialties - the 100 and 300 hurdles. Polina ran 16.51 in the 100 hurdles placing her 14th all time and 48.59 moving her to number 13 all time.
- Freshman Erin Spratt continues to move up the throws all time list, this time in the discus with a number 17 listing throwing 94-04 (video).
Sacramento Meet of Champions (4-20-24): The Broncos enjoyed some excellent track and field weather at American River College last Saturday leading the way to some solid performances. The SMOC has always been a local showcase of some of the best talent in Northern California and our Bella Vista athletes were up to the task showing they can compete with the top tier athletes of the region.
Not to be outdone our entire program came out to help run the meet and did an outstanding job! Student volunteers as well as team parents showed up to make the SMOC the great meet that it is. Thanks to all of the volunteers for having our backs. We could not do it without you!
There were eight all time list marks achieved by BV athletes at the SMOC this year with the first of the day coming from the boys 4 x 800 relay team of Griffin Keel, Ian Bishop, Roanan Emanavin, and Cade Rucker. The four ran the 9th fastest time in school history with a fine 8:20.79 (video).
The Bella Vista girls 4 x 100 (Allie Anselmino, Fiona Ryan, Hanna Gossett and Emily Bluemel) finished 12th overall in the open session running 50.30 (video) a time good for 9th place all time.
Up next in the individual events was super soph Sophia Pham in the 3200 meters. Sophia ran a personal best 11:39.91 (video) moving her up to the number 16th spot on the all time list.
Our third all time list mark was set by middle distance ace Haley Mazzei who not only moved up on the 800 meter list, she won the day meet girls race (video)! Haley broke the 2:20 barrier running 2:19.36 moving her into the top 10 on the list at number 9. An amazing accomplishment for a sophomore!
Our next lister was senior Emily Bluemel who bettered her all time mark in the 200 breaking the 26 second barrier by running 25.98 (video). The time places her number 10 all time is school history.
The Invitational Session or "night meet" followed the great performances of the open session with some even more amazing feats. Zoe Corder (10) improved her best time in the 1600 meters by 8 seconds running an all time list number 6 mark of 5:06.75 (video) good for ninth place in school history. Zoe followed up that amazing performance with another personal best in the 3200 meters with a 11:34.60 (video) placing her 15th all time.
Our last amazing performance of the evening came from senior Kellen Kirby who had a massive personal best in the 1600 running 4:14.58 (video) moving him up to number 3 all time in school history.
It always amazes me that only one school can host an event the size of the Sacramento Meet of Champions. It is always a blessing to see everyone from a single team come together to support our school and community and the sport of track and field in general. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this great meet!
CVC Meet 2B (4-11-24): Thursday was easily the warmest day of the season so far which meant some fast times for the short distance runners. Sprinters and jumpers usually like the warmer weather because it lends itself to fast times and our meet at Roseville HS proved that to be true. As a team the Broncos swept both Roseville HS and Inderkum HS in all four divisions. See below for team scores:

The highlight of the day came from the varsity boys 4 x 100 relay team who have been showing consistent improvement every meet this season. Before the race the quartet of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddick Trumbull and Owen Dismukes seemed to be energized by the warm temps and the promise of being pushed by a solid opponent in Inderkum HS. The four boys didn't disappoint passing the baton smoothly through three exhanges and powering home for a new school record of 42.61 (video). The old record of 42.67 was set in 2010 so after 14 years the feeling was that it was about time for the record to fall.
Other notable performances included several times and marks making it to the all time lists for the first time or moving up previous list marks.
- The varsity girls 4 x 100 of Allie Anselmino, Emily Bluemel, Fiona Ryan and Hanna Gossett moved into the top ten all time at number nine with an excellent time of 50.39.
- Freshman Erin Spratt joined the 30+ club in the girls shotput taking second for her 30-09 toss placing her 18th all time.
- Freshman Hanna Gossett snuck onto the 200 meter all time list for the first time with a big personal best of 27.03 sliding her into the number 20th position.
- Senior Reddik Trumbull also moved onto the 200 meter all time list running 23.20 and earlier rocketed to a 51.08 in the 400 meters and an all time list placement of number 18.
- Senior Owen Dismukes moved up two lists with a 21-10.00 long jump putting him at number 11 all time and a 22.68 200 meters moving him up to number 9 all time.
- Freshman Sophia Ramos made her debut on the 100 meter all time list at number 27 running 13.32.
- Senior Kai Brown moved up on the 100 meter all time list clocking a 11.30 timing moving him to number 11 all time.
The Broncos look tough heading into the last half of the season with greater things to come as we head to conference and section finals!
Lancer Invitational (4-6-24): A few Broncos won a some medals and made moves on the all time list at Cordova HS on Saturday. The day started out with a cold south breeze and slowly warmed in the afternoon.
Gold Medal Winners:
- 100 meters - Freshman Hanna Gossett took first in the JV girls running 13.55 into a wind.
- 3200 meters - Freshman Liv Toyias won the JV girls in 14:38.16.
- 300 hurdles - Polina Bardusova claimed varsity gold in 49.98.
- 4 x 100 Relay - Sophia Ramos (9), Carmen Tomlinson (10), Erica Yessaian (11), Hanna Gossett (9) won in a time of 53.22.
- Discus - Freshman Erin Spratt was victorious in the JV division throwing 90-10 inches. This mark also moved her up on the all time list to 18th all time.
- Pole Vault - Senior Fiona Ryan secured a gold in the varsity division vaulting 10-00.
- 4 x 800 Relay - Ruby Rogers, Bethany Lacey, Al Brancamp and Addison Bernel won the relay going 11:40.07.
- High Jump - Bryce Lovins jumped 6-00 to win the varsity division.

Arcadia Invitational (4-5-24 & 4-6-24): The Broncos sent a small contingent of athletes to the prestigious Arcadia Invitational this week pitting themselves up against the best track and field athletes in the country! With 787 schools submitting marks trying to get into the meet to compete, it was a not only the most challenging meet to compete in but near impossible just to qualify. However, even with the high level of difficulty our Broncos were able to shine showing that BV always has talent on display!
Friday night started off the meet and our girls 4 x 1600 relay team did amazing running the race in the fifth fasted time in school history! The team of Haley Mazzei, Jayden Fritz, Kai Pham, and Zoe Corder made us all proud showing they can run with the best in the state. They posted a fine 21:57.64 good for 9th place in the seeded race (video)
Next up for the Broncos on Saturday morning was the boys 4 x 100 relay team of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddick Trumbull and Owen Dismukes. After a starters error which caused the team to be last in their heat, BV was given another chance after a protest to the games committee. In heat two, our lead-off man, Carson Newman was not in a set position when the gun went off. Since it is the starters responsibility to make sure all lanes are set we were given a second chance and put into heat five. Way out in lane 9 now the quartet was able to establish the third fastest time in school history running 42.90 (video heat 2) (video heat 5) putting them 5th in the entire Sac Joaquin Section (SJS) in early April!
Next up on the track was two lap ace Kellen Kirby. He had run one of the top times in the SJS the week before at the Stanford Invitational and was looking to continue his success at Arcadia. Kellen ran a solid 1:55.09 (video) good for 12th place and 4th in his heat earning him a medal.
Our loan field event entrant was Owen Dismukes in the triple jump. Owen was able to post his second best meet ever jumping 44-09 good for 7th place!
Bella Vista's final event of the day was the boys and girls distance medley relay (DMR). Both our boys and girls teams achieved times fast enough to put their teams solidly onto the BV DMR all time lists! The girls team of Haley Mazzei, Emily Bluemel, Jayden Fritz, and Zoe Corder finished 22nd overall and their time of 12:51.82 (video) was enough to place them 11th all time in school history!
The Bronco's final race of the day was the boys DMR with the team of Kellen Kirby, Reddik Trumbull, Griffen Keel, and Calvin Fear placing 14th overall and posting a time of 10:39.68 (video) putting them at number six all time in school history!
Bronco Speed Festival (3-23-24): Some BV highlights include a second place in the 200 (26.60) and 400 (60.34) by Emily Bluemel. A fourth place finish by Polina Bardusova in the 300 hurdles. Polina ran 49.08 which placed her 18th on the all time list. The girls 4 x 100 relay team of Allie Anselmino, Emily Bluemel, Fiona Ryan and Hanna Gossett posted a fourth place finish with an all time list time of 50.80 moving the 2024 team to number 11 all time.
Granite Bay Field Fest (3-22-24): This meet is always a fun outing for the field event folks. There is no added presure of having to check out of a field event to go to other events. It felt all day like it wanted to rain at times but the rain held off and the Broncos were able to post some good performances.
There was some movement on the all time lists with some Broncos improving their list standing, a few tying their all time best and one all time list debut.
- Sophomore Eva Jensen tied her personal best in the pole vault going 8-06 tying her for 28th all time.
- Senior Fiona Ryan triple jumped 33-06 tying her best all time performance at 14th all time.
- Junior Taylor Douglas showed up on the long jump list for the first time with a personal best 15-07.50 placing her 30th all time.
- Senior Owen Dismukes had a huge improvement in the triple jump rocketing up the all time list to number 4 with a jump of 45-08.
The top three placements in each field event received a Field Fest custom towel. Towel winners for Bella Vista were:

Lincoln Zebra Invitational (3-16-24): I think everyone was in agreement that it was a pleasure to finally compete in perfect weather! The BV squad was once again split this weekend with the distance runners at Dublin (see below) and the field athletes, sprinters and hurdlers at Lincoln HS.
Check the List: The Broncos started the meet off with a big win from the varsity boys 4 x 100 relay team of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddick Trumbull and Owen Dismukes! The four seniors posted a season best 43.16 putting them at number 5 all time (video)! The girls varsity 4 x 100 of Polina Bardusova, Emily Bluemel, Fiona Ryan and Allie Anselmino ran a 51.06 good for 14th all time (video). On a whim, senior Reddick Trumbull asked to run the 400 meters and from a much slower heat 3 blew away the competition running 51.97 all by himself placing him 30th all time in school history. In the varsity girls 300 hurdles, senior Polina Bardusova inched up the all time list to 22nd all time with a 50.51 clocking. Junior Grant Hymas also improved his best pole vault all time list performance jumping 14-01.50 moving him to number 7 all time.

Dublin Distance Fiesta (3-15-24 & 3-16-24): Personal bests are usually the goal at Dublin and this weekend was no exception! The meet is billed as the largest distance meet in the nation with thousands of runners and a never ending schedule of distance heats. The Bronco runners weathered the grueling schedule while posting some fine marks for this early season meet.

Highlights! The girls 1600 meters saw sophomore Zoe Corder better her all time mark bringing it down to 5:14.32 inching her closer to a coveted top ten ranking. Her time moved her to number 12 all time. Another sophomore, Kai Pham, broke the 5:30 barrier for the first time running 5:29.32 debuting her at number 31 all time. The big news of the day was in the boys 1600 meters where freshman Calvin Fear broke a 52 year old freshman school record. The previous record was set by Jim Mebust in 1972 at 4:30.24 and has stood for decades until Saturday. We all have a feeling that the record will get faster before the seaons ends! Calvins time also place him 26th on the 1600 meter all time list!
CVC Meet 1B (3-13-24): At Woodcreek HS (Roseville) - A windy Wednesday allowed for some fast sprint times as the Broncos came together as a team for the first time this season. Bella Vista performed well sweeping the boys divisions and taking close seconds to Woodcreek in both girl's divisions (see scoring below).

Highlights - Starting off the meet, Polina Bardusova set a personal best in the varsity girls 100 hurdles running 16.59 placing her at number 18 all time. The varsity boys 4 x 100 relay team of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddick Trumbull and Owen Dismukes improved their all time status running 43.79 moving them up a bit on the all time list.
Sturgeon Invitational (3-9-24): Some big time performances were seen from Bella Vista athletes at Granite Bay high school on Saturday despite the steady wind in the runners faces. A constent negative wind reading hampered the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers but as you will see we still posted excellent marks.

Moving Up The List: Some all time list movement was also seen on Saturday with several Broncos stepping up with great performances. Erin Spratt, a freshman in her first ever high school track meet, took second in the discus throwing 84-02 putting her number 24 all time in that event. Senior Fiona Ryan moved from 19th to 14th all time in the triple jump, improving her best mark by 11 inches jumping 33-06. Junior Grant Hymas had the biggest leap of the day over in the pole vault moving him into the top 10 all time with an 8th ranked performance vaulting 14-00 for the first time.
Friday and Saturday showed that the Broncos are ready to make their mark. Both days were solid outings for our team. Now we look forward to our ultimate team challenge in our first CVC meet. This is where we all come together to perform as a team not just individuals. Be ready to step up for your teammates. Support and cheer for each other. Conference meets can be tough but I believe we are ready for the challenge. GO BRONCOS!
Bronco Roundup Distance Carnival (3-8-24): Our weekend began with the eighteenth annual BV Distance Carnvial. 30 schools attended this meet hosted by Bella Vista on a cool Friday night. Highlights of the meet for the Broncos:
PRs, PRs, PRs! Friday saw most of the Bronco distance crew set personal records (PRs) or at the very least set seasonal records (SR)! If you follow this link, you can view the meet results. For a closer look at Bronco personal accomplishments select the "Show Team Filters" button above the "Mens Results" heading, then select "Bella Vista". Look to the right of each athletes time to view if it was a SR or PR. This is an easy way to see the very impressive night the Broncos had!
New and Returning All Time Listers: Our lady 1600 runners made their presence known in a big way with both sophomores Haley Mazzei and Zoe Corder running under 5:20 for the first time. Haley had a massive 24 second PR running 5:17.29 allowing her to crack the 4 lap all time list for the first time at number 16. Zoe also improved her best running just behind Haley in 5:18.03 moving her up to number 19 all time.
In the 800 meters there were two improvements and one debut on the 2 lap all time list with two doubling back from the 1600 meters. Haley Mazzei impoved her 800 meter all time standing by just over two seconds! Haley finished second overall with a fine early season mark of 2:23.93. This performance moved her from number 26 all time to the 19th best performance in school history. Making her debut on the 800 meter list was Zoe Corder. Zoe dropped a 2:25.84 to improve her 800 PR by over a whopping 7 seconds placing her 27th all time. Not to be outdone, senior Kellen Kirby set a personal best in his specialty lowering his time to 1:56.12 moving him past Mike Koerner to fourth place all time. Koerner's time was run 58 years ago in 1966, making Kellen's move up the list a historic one.
Everyone Wants the Shirt! The Bronco Roundup Distance Carnival gives out a "winner" t-shirt to the top three finishers in each heat. Here is a list of Broncos who won a shirt:

- Girls 800 meters - Amelia Swenson 3rd place, heat 5; Kai Pham 3rd place, heat 6; Haley Mazzei 2nd place, heat 8
- Boys 800 meters - Kellen Kirby 2nd place, heat 10
Glenn Poole Invitational (2-24-24): The first meet of the year always brings out the most nerves, anxiety and doubt especially when considering the individual circumstances of each athlete. For some team members the Glenn Poole Invitational was their first ever track meet. Others may have been experiencing their first varsity level competition and a few were making a come back from long injury recovery. With everyone out of school the week before the meet the coaching staff can sometimes have the same doubts, not knowing what to expect on meet day. A large track and field team like ours has a complicated dynamic and being the beginning of the season that dynamic can become very confusing. As you will see, even when considering all of these things, the Broncos were able to shine showing great promise for the upcoming 2024 season!
All Timers - The Broncos had a number of all time marks achieved on Saturday. Now remember, this is just the first meet of the year in the cold month of February, and these are still some of the best marks in school history!
- Distance runners Zoe Corder (10) and Kai Pham (10) made their debut on girls 3200 meter all time list. Zoe clocked 11:44.35 putting her number 16 all time and Kai posted a fine 11:54.98 breaking her onto the list at number 24.
- The varsity girls 4 x 100 relay team of Polina Bardusova, Emily Bluemel, Allison Dennett, and Allie Anselmino ran 51.66 good for the 21st best time in school history.
- On the boy's side the varsity 4 x 100 relay team of Carson Newman, Kai Brown, Reddik Trumbull, and Owen Dismukes finished in a fine early season time of 43.88 ranking them 13th on the all time list.
- Senior Owen Dismukes moved up on the triple jump all time list from last year jumping 43-08.50 giving him the 13th best mark in school history.
- Finally, sophomore Haley Mazzei cracked the 800 meter all time list for the first time with a strong 2:26.11 starting her at number 26 all time.
